Kindleでしおり (the furthest location) をリセットする

一から調べようとしたんですけど、以前に自分でまとめたことを思い出しました。

ちゃんとリセットできて一安心だけど、出来ればアプリからクリック一つでリセットできるようにして欲しいかも。

読んだよ! - Presentation Zen (Garr Reynolds)

いきなり「ほとんど全てのプレゼンはクズだ!」って「ダメ出しスライド」で始まるんだけど、このスライドだけで「ああそうかも、でも、これ読むと何とかなりそう」って思わせてくれる本。

「箇条書き (Bullet Point) 満載のパワポ」を作っちゃう人（＝みんなかな?）が読むと、きっと「何とか」なるんじゃないかな。読むだけで効果がある、というか何かが変わり始めるよ...。

2. 感想 - あとはアップルの基調講演とTEDみとけばオッケーじゃね?
（TEDって何?、ってみんなは、この記事の末尾をみてね）

いやホントに、あとはいかに「良いプレゼンをたくさんみて、それを真似して、実践してみる」ってことだけかな。

最近だと「The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs (邦題: スティーブ・ジョブズ 驚異のプレゼン)あたりが「プレゼン本」としてはヒットして、実際オイラも読んで「イイね！」って思うけど、「どっちか一冊」っていったら今回の本かな。両方とも書いてある大切なポイントは同じなんで。

まあ、お薦め理由を一つ挙げるとすれば「素敵なスライドがたくさん載っている」ってとこかな。「見た目」の大切さを理解するのに、これ以上のサンプルはないと思うんで。

とりあえず「プレゼンするうえで大切なこと、忘れないようにしたいこと」を本文からの引用、という形でメモっておくよ。

What matters is to not close yourself down too early in the process of exploration. Failing is fine, necessary in fact. But avoiding experimentation or risk - especially out of fear of what others may think - is something that will gnaw at your gut more than any ephemeral failure.

「失敗したって死なないんだから。最低なのは人の顔色ばかり気にすることだぜ。」...ジョブズ様のスタンフォードスピーチにも「大切なのは自分の思ったことをやる勇気を持つこと」とか、同じ趣旨のメッセージがあるよね。

But we regularly struggle when communicating these types of ideas because they are essentially invisible. It's difficult to share one's vision when there's nothing to see. Expressing these invisible ideas visually, so that they feel tangible and actionable, is a bit of an art form, and the best place to start is not with the computer.

「形がないことを人へ伝えるのは難しくて当然だよ。ある意味芸術の領域だから、まずはコンピュータ抜きでやらないか」...「伝えたいことは何か」、「どのように伝えれば効率的か」って考えるのにパワポはいらないよね? 実際プレゼンの準備でコンピュータ使うのなんて、「スライド作る最後の一瞬」だよね。間違ってもパワポ開きながら「何話そうかな」なんてやっちゃいけない（笑）。

The problem with most presentations is that they are too long, not that they are too short.
「過ぎたるは及ばざるが如し」...特にいうことありまへん。ある意味、一番大切だよね。

印象に残った箇所はもっとたくさんあったんだけど、プレゼンの基本に則って3つに絞ってみたよ!（笑）。

「自分にとってプレゼンで大切にしたいこと」を見つけたかったら、ぜひ今回紹介した本を読んで欲しいな。サックと読める分量だし、サンプルのスライドもキレイなんで、きっと楽しく最後まで読めるよ。

Kindle's latest update (Feb 2011)

I think Amazon Kindle's latest update for iOS is one of the most important and useful ones for me.

My favourite is a so-called "Real page number" function, which gives Kindle books actual page numbers corresponding to the print books. It resolves your frustration to make proper citations with your mates reading print ones!

Currently all the Kindle books doesn't have "Real Page Number". In my bookshelf, though I haven't check it throughly, just 2 books get the benefit. (As of Feb 2011)

キンドル(kindle)がアップデートしたよ (2011年2月)

詳細はアマゾンのサイト、以下のリリースノートを見てもらうとして、「同じ本の紙バージョンにおける対応するページ番号が分かるようになったよ」ってとこかな。

ページ番号（青い進捗表示バーの直上、真ん中あたり）

知人同士で「あの本のさ、何ページ目に書いてあるんだよ」とか、今まで「紙と電子版」の間だと少し難しかったのが、これで解消されたんだよね。

ちなみに現時点 (2011.2.17) で「紙のページ番号」が表示されるのは一部の本で、これから対象は順次拡大されてくみたい。

手持ちの本を何冊かみると、こんな感じかな。

いわゆるブックマーク（furthest read location)って簡単に初期化することができないんですよね。前に進んだら進みっぱなしで。もっと簡単にできるようになると思いますけどね、そのうち。とりあえず次の方法が現時点では一番確実かと。

1. http://amazon.com へログインして、Your Account > Manage Your Kindle > Manage Kindle Device Synchronization とリンクをたどって "Turn Synchronization Off" をクリック。これでブックマークの同期がオフになる。
2. キンドルでホーム画面へ戻る。この状態で1〜2待ってから次の作業をやると多分いい感じ。
3. ブックマークをリセットしたい本を開いて、先頭のページへ移動する。
4. ブックマークを同期する（sync to the furthest position)。もし既に同期済み（you're already there!）って感じのメッセージが出たら初期化完了。だめならもう一回試してね。
5. amazon.com で同期を元に戻すのを忘れずに。

日本のアマゾンで原書 The Knowledge-Creating Company を購入すると結構良い値段、というよりも「Kindle（電子書籍）で読みたい」という方へのエントリ。

• 現時点では日本から Kindle 版の同書のページへアクセスすると、"This title is not available for customers from your location in: Asia & Pacific" と言われて無常にも購入できません。
• そんな時は "Your Account -> Manage Your Kindle -> Your Country" で You のお国をゴニョゴニョっとしてしまいましょう。サクっとゲット出来るようになっちゃいます。

良いこのみんなは At your own risk でお願いな、ボクとの約束だぜ（汗

(Kindle) PDFが直接見れるようになったけど

拡大できないんですよ。PCの画面でも文字が小さくて困っちゃう場合が多いのに、Kindleの6インチ画面じゃ話にならないよ。

引き続き「PDF->Kindleフォーマット変換サービス」は使えるので、少なくともテキストは問題なく読めるこっちでしのぐしかないか。

ちなみに日本語サポートはまだっす。

毎日 out, インターナショナルヘラルドトリビューン in

とうことで毎日さんは無料期間の最終日に一旦外すことにしたよ、「別に悪くなかったけど、積極的に継続する気にもならなかった」ので。代わりにIHTアジア版を評価する、ということで。ちなみにIHTは「ニューヨークタイムズの国際版」という位置づけなので、展開すると「ニューヨークタイムズの国際版のアジア版」という感じ？

Anyway, 「新聞を購読できる」というのはKindleの売りの一つ、だと思うけれど、「実際に何を購読するか？」って言われると結構難しいよね。「14日間の無料お試し期間」が各紙についてくるのは大変ありがたいけど、私みたいに慎重（=優柔不断？）な人は中々「金払っちゃる！」ってならないかもね。

【勝手に考えるお金を払ってKindleで読みたい新聞の条件】
・実は全く同じ記事が普通にタダでアクセスできるウェブ上に掲載されたりして無いよね。
・「紙」バージョンと比べて、コンテンツの質・量で負けてる、なんてことは無いよね。
・紙や通常のWebバージョンと比べて、コストや特典がショボイ・劣る、なんてことは無いよね。

まあ他にもいっぱいあるんだけど、とりあえず直ぐに思いつくことから並べてみたよ。「毎日決まった機器（Kindle）で、特に何もしなくても新聞が見れる（新聞屋さんとやり取り、パソコンで新聞社のWebサイトへアクセスとか不要）」という点が全てなんですよ、という言い方が出来なくないような気がしないでもないけれど、とりあえず私はお大臣じゃないので上の３点位は満たしてほしいなー、って思っちゃうなー。

ていうか、日経の英語版が来たらもうそれでOKなんだけどなー、私的には。

Kindleで毎日新聞を試読してるんですけど、14日間の無料期間が終わった後もお金払って継続するかと言われたら微妙だなー。基本的に以下のページにアクセスすれば無料でよめる記事ばっかりなんだよね、配信されるの。
